Job Description

COMPANY BACKGROUND

A multi-generational, family-owned real estate investment and development firm based in New York City is adding an experienced Senior Accountant to support its accounting and reporting function. The firm has operated for several decades and maintains a diversified portfolio of residential, commercial, and mixed-use assets throughout the New York metropolitan area, including the management of over 1 million square feet of commercial real estate in Manhattan.

The organization has been involved in substantial development, repositioning, and long-term ownership initiatives across its history and maintains strong relationships with prominent partners, lenders, financial institutions, and professional service providers throughout the real estate community. Its investment approach emphasizes disciplined underwriting, thoughtful urban development, and the long-term stewardship of high-quality assets across generations.

Operating in a lean, entrepreneurial environment, the firm values hands-on involvement, direct decision-making, and close engagement with its properties. The company maintains a deep commitment to discretion, professionalism, and the responsible management of its real estate holdings as it continues to enhance its portfolio.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Accountant will serve as the primary accounting professional for a private real estate family office, responsible for managing day-to-day accounting functions across the firm’s operating business and multiple real estate entities. The role focuses on maintaining accurate financial records, producing timely financial reporting, managing cash flow activity, and coordinating closely with third-party property managers, external accountants, and financial institutions.

This position reports directly to the President and Chief Operating Officer and requires exceptional discretion, sound judgment, and professionalism when handling financial information for a private family office.

The role is hands-on and detail-oriented, suited for an experienced Senior Accountant who is comfortable working independently, managing multiple entities, and supporting ownership with reliable, well-organized financial information. Over time, the Senior Accountant will help strengthen internal processes and assist with building and mentoring a small internal accounting team as the organization’s operational needs evolve.
