Job Description

We are currently seeking a VP of Multifamily Acquisitions to join the Abacus team based in our New York, NY office. We are looking for an individual with acquisitions experience in the multifamily sector to assist in our Value-Add and Core investment initiatives, focusing on select target markets in the Eastern and Midwestern US in conjunction with the existing Eastern Region team. In addition, the individual may be asked to augment the firm’s development activities by sourcing/assisting in land acquisition and pre-development projects.


Responsibilities/Skills:


Abacus is an owner of multifamily real estate nationwide. We are seeking a candidate with 10+ years’ experience in Real Estate Acquisitions and Finance, ideally with a history of executing in markets on the East Coast. The candidate should have a requisite skill-set that includes the following:


  • Familiarity with the multifamily housing markets throughout the Eastern and Midwestern US and the ability to periodically reevaluate these markets to determine those which best meet the firm’s investment objectives.
  • Ability to identify, underwrite and recommend potential multifamily investment opportunities by researching property, demographic and other pertinent information within target markets and apply analytical processes to determine whether opportunities meet or exceed the company’s investment criteria.
  • In conjunction with the Eastern Region asset management team, create and review capital budgets and business plans and coordinate with 3rd party managers and other sources to help fully define and vet investment opportunities.
  • Ability to manage and oversee full due diligence process, including independently verifying of all details about the property, arranging and reviewing all due diligence materials including third party reports, market analyses, title/survey, and rent comps, as well as, completing property inspections, unit walks, lease file audits and maintenance audits.
  • Ability to lead purchase & sale contract negotiations, as well as, work the appropriate channels for financing new acquisitions through both agency and bank debt scenarios.
  • Ability to write clear and concise communications and draft Investment Memoranda for presentation to the firm’s Investment Committee.
  • Maintain existing and establish new relationships with brokers, owners, operators, attorneys and existing company connections in target markets.
  • Technically savvy: Advanced MS Excel skills, Word, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat. RealPage, Yieldstar, iLevel, ResiModel and Rentlytics aplus.
  • Consistent travel will be required to target markets in the Eastern and Midwestern US in the performance of this role.
