Job Description

Director of Credit & Underwriting

Sunday Capital | Los Angeles, CA

About Sunday Capital

Sunday Capital is a rapidly growing private real estate credit platform providing bridge financing for transitional commercial real estate nationwide — multifamily, mixed-use, retail, industrial, and specialty assets, with loans ranging from $2 million to $50+ million. Our platform has built a reputation for creativity, speed, and certainty of execution.

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced Director of Credit & Underwriting to lead our underwriting team and oversee all aspects of the underwriting process from initial application through closing — establishing best-in-class credit standards, interfacing directly with borrowers and institutional capital providers, and ensuring transactions move efficiently through the pipeline. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment and takes ownership without constant supervision.

Responsibilities

Credit Leadership: Lead all underwriting activity across the firm’s bridge loan platform; manage and mentor underwriting and analyst staff; review every loan before presentation to management; establish and continuously improve underwriting policies and procedures; maintain consistency and quality across all credit memoranda.

Transaction Management: Own each transaction from initial application through funding — borrower intake, financial and sponsor analysis, property underwriting, market research, cash flow modeling, loan structuring, risk assessment, credit committee preparation, and closing coordination.

Institutional Capital Relationships: Work directly with banks, insurance companies, credit funds, institutional investors, warehouse lenders, and A/B note partners — preparing institutional-quality investment memoranda, responding to diligence requests, coordinating third-party reports, managing lender due diligence, and presenting transactions to capital partners.

Portfolio Management: Monitor the existing loan portfolio; review construction and draw requests; track covenant compliance; identify emerging credit issues and recommend risk mitigation strategies.

Qualifications

Required Experience: 7–15+ years of commercial real estate lending with significant bridge lending experience; underwriting bridge loans, construction loans, or transitional assets; managing analysts and underwriting teams; strong understanding of institutional credit standards. Multifamily experience required; retail, industrial, office, mixed-use, and specialty assets preferred.

Technical Skills: Advanced Excel financial modeling (Argus experience preferred); strong understanding of loan sizing, DSCR, debt yield, LTV/LTC, sponsor analysis, construction lending, business plans, and market analysis; experience reviewing appraisals, environmental and engineering reports, title, surveys, and organizational documents.

Ideal Candidate: Operates with urgency and exceptional attention to detail; highly organized, proactive, and accountable; independently solves problems; communicates clearly with borrowers and institutional investors; thrives in a high-volume environment managing multiple transactions simultaneously; wants to help build a best-in-class lending platform.

Compensation

Base Salary: $225,000–$300,000+, depending on experience.

Additional: Annual performance bonus; long-term incentive opportunity for exceptional candidates; health benefits; paid vacation; opportunity for career advancement within a rapidly growing institutional lending platform.

Why Join Sunday Capital?

This is an opportunity to become a key member of a growing private credit platform with direct exposure to ownership and institutional capital partners. The Director of Credit will play a central role in shaping the firm’s underwriting standards, scaling operations, and helping drive the next phase of Sunday Capital’s growth.
