Job Description
Our Chicago office is seeking a Senior Associate, Investment Research to join the firm’s Investment Research group. This position involves research into economic, capital market, and property market trends in support of the firm’s investment strategies in private equity and debt and real estate securities. Research is an integral part of the investment process at Heitman and the focus of significant corporate resources.
The department is charged with:
- Targeting market and property-level investment opportunities
- Underwriting market assumptions for specific assets as part of the acquisitions, asset management and dispositions process
- Framing investment strategies to capitalize on capital and property market opportunities
The responsibilities of a Senior Associate include, but are not limited to:
- Collect and analyze data on property markets, capital markets and economic trends in North America
- Work alongside the acquisition team on prospective property acquisitions, including assessments of local market conditions and trends, competitive properties and identification of risks/opportunities
- Write the market summary for annual business plans for properties within the Heitman-managed North American portfolio
- Regularly create and update content regarding capital markets and property market fundamentals for client presentations.
- Contribute analysis and content for white papers and Thought Leadership pieces on market trends and their investment implications
- Interact and work collaboratively with senior management and clients in person and on conference calls
Qualifications
We are seeking individuals who meet the following criteria:
- A Bachelor’s degree in economics, statistics geography, urban studies or a related field. An advanced degree or CFA designation a plus
- Three to five years in real estate research, consulting, finance, economics, geography or urban planning (Candidates with other backgrounds that demonstrate strong research and writing skills will also be considered). Will also consider candidates with an advanced degree, but less than 3 years experienced.
- Excellent organizational, analytical and written and oral communication skills
- A highly developed ability to juggle multiple assignments simultaneously
- Fluency in Excel, PowerPoint and data visualization
- Comfort with creating, maintaining and manipulating databases
- Intellectual curiosity and integrity
- Willingness to work independently on short deadlines
- Prior experience within the commercial real estate industry a plus
