Mitsui Fudosan America, Inc. (MFA) is the US subsidiary of Japan's largest real estate company, Mitsui Fudosan Co., Ltd., a publicly-traded company with approximately $50 billion of assets. Mitsui Fudosan America is headquartered in New York and is responsible for Mitsui’s investment and development activities in North America. MFA’s US portfolio currently includes 6 office buildings totaling 4 million square feet; 4.4 million square feet of office space in development; approximately 1,200 residential apartments; and 2,000 additional apartments under development. This position reports to the Controller and Vice President of Finance and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the accounting function, including maintenance of the company's financial records, support and oversight of 3rd party property managers, financial statement preparation, forecast preparation, financial analyses, and providing support to our acquisition and asset management departments.
We are looking for an independent, highly motivated, individual possessing superior analytical and communication skills, with a strong accounting and reporting background, who is looking to contribute to an expanding business while working in a challenging and highly professional environment.
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Maintaining the integrity of the accounting system, including preparation of period-end adjustments, accruals and account analyses
- Assist in the preparation of consolidated GAAP financial statements
- Assist in the preparation of quarterly forecasts and annual budget
- Maintaining our web based accounting system (Yardi)
- Assist in financial due diligence process during acquisitions
- Preparation of accounting related to acquisitions, dispositions and other joint venture transactions
- Implement our accounting system at 3rd party property managers for acquired properties
- Reviewing investor reports on a monthly and quarterly basis including detailed variance reports provided by the 3rd party property managers
- Performing lease analysis and net rent calculations
- Direct and support 3rd party property managers on financial and accounting matters
- Preparation of support for the company’s income and property tax returns
- Preparation of governmental reports
- Maintaining and assisting with Sarbanes Oxley requirements
- Prepare supporting schedules and communicating with external auditors on a quarterly basis
- Staying abreast of new accounting pronouncements and industry developments
Prerequisites:
- BA/BS in Accounting, CPA required
- Capable of multitasking and processing large volume of data
- Highly computer literate
- Detail oriented
- Team player
- 5-7 years experience in accounting
- Real Estate and Public accounting experience a plus
