1 Role description

Turner & Townsend North America has expanded reach and scale over the last five years. Bold plans now signal ambitious continued growth. Together with that a business generation model has been established globally, laying down the mark for activity across four pillars: effective “go to market” strategy; building and asserting a distinct brand; early positioning to capture major bid opportunities; and deepening the relationships with key clients. The Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), North America will drive marketing and business development activity across these pillars. Working closely with North American leadership team and Global Marketing Director, the CMO will set out a path to increase the pace and efficacy of business generation in North America. The CMO will lead a team of seven marketing professionals, based across the continent. They will report in to the Managing Director Americas.

2 Remit

  • Devise and drive an effective brand strategy and plan of action for key North American markets. This will include the development of effective messaging and positioning, and specific brand enhancing activities including social media targeting, thought leadership campaigns, sponsorships and awards. It will consider the framework established by the global communications strategy, and deploy and manage external agencies, such as PR specialists, where required.
  • Help maintain and improve the ability to capture new business opportunities, through oversight of an effective bid infrastructure, across all stages– early positioning, repository of best bid responses, bid document templates, presentation pitch materials. To draw on best practice templates and collateral from the central Global Business Generation team.
  • Establish and maintain a smooth running regional key client program, drawing on best practice from the Global Business Generation team AND support key client leads to significantly grow the relationship with leading multinational organizations, through effective messaging and introduction of relevant thought leadership and client propositions.
  • Oversee the up to date population and effective usage of the company’s CRM system, to effectively identify and target client contacts and prospects.
  • Champion and advocate best in class marketing and business development practice across all the wider North American business division of +600 people, to create an informed and effective pool of brand ambassadors.
  • Build and maintain a coherent and motivated marketing/business development team in North America, aligned to the realization of regional business objectives.
3 Capabilities and attributes

  • A firm grasp across the professional services sales cycle, with the ability to align marketing activity to lead and revenue generation.
  • A strong track record of leading a marketing / business development function within a global professional services organization.
  • A credible presence, comfortable to engage and influence at the most senior levels.
  • An ability to balance strategic thinking with tangible outcomes on the ground – a thinker / doer.
  • A collaborative working style, able to effectively engage colleagues at all levels, and across multiple regions globally.
  • Resilient character, comfortable to operate in a fast paced, managing multiple stakeholders.
  • Proven track record in building cohesive and successful teams.
  • Pioneer mind-set eager to develop the firms’ best practices around marketing strategy, communications and business generation.
