Hyde Park Labs is a groundbreaking sophisticated science's building, located in downtown Hyde Park and driven by the University of Chicago's ground-breaking science research.
This role will be at the forefront of activating a ground-floor community space, which includes working with local schools and non-profits for STEM activities, crafting programming around science innovation, and collaborating with University of Chicago and other tenants in the building.
As part of a "front-of-house" property management team, you will be providing excellent service and crafting a welcoming atmosphere while supporting all student and tenant-facing services focused within the community space.
Duties & Responsibilities
Build a program from the ground up passionate about STEM innovation for middle school and high school students.
Leverage partners including University of Chicago, Polsky Center, etc. to support high-quality programming at Hyde Park Labs' STEM Community Lab.
Lead a yearly budget for programming and associated costs of the STEM Community Lab.
Connect with direct-service organizations including schools and nonprofits in order to develop joint programming in the STEM Community Lab. Activities include planning, implementation, logistics, evaluation, and assessment of direct-service organizations.
Support evaluation and reporting processes for partnership with direct-service organizations.
Initiate process for branding and naming for STEM Community Lab.
Participate in community engagement opportunities, listening sessions, community advisory committees to understand how best to co-create programs with the community and address community needs around STEM education and STEM workforce development.
Build a plan for additional fundraising efforts (if required) with grant proposal development, donations, etc.
Produce impact reports to be shared with collaborators.
Develop and maintain supply library; create system for ordering and using supplies and equipment for the lab.
Develop relationships with local schools and student programs.
Build attendee and volunteer databases and supervise their participation across programming opportunities at the STEM Community Lab.
Participate in professional learning communities, affinity groups, and committees to increase understanding for standard processes at city, state, and national levels around STEM pathway development.
Promote inclusivity and accessibility in STEM for all; experience working in partnership and service to communities historically underrepresented in STEM; culturally-responsive and trauma-informed; strong familiarity with the barriers to access in STEM
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) programming for students.
- Preferred for Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) from four-year college or university.
- Ambitious demeanor and ability to build new concepts from scratch.
- Excellent communication and social skills.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, internet research and web publishing skills. Ability to manipulate basic templates in Power Point and/or InDesign preferred.
- Role will potentially require flexible hours depending on the programming generated.
