CORPORATE ACCOUNTING MANAGER

This position is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day activities of the corporate accounting support team and accounts payable team.  In addition, this individual will perform accounting and analysis functions associated with the preparation of monthly financial statements for the corporate entities and perform daily payroll activities including processing our bi-weekly payroll.  This is an in-office position. 
 
Responsibilities
  • Corporate Accounting Team Management
    • Lead, mentor and develop the corporate accounting team in improving processes, timeliness, and accuracy
    • Drive improvements to the corporate accounting processes through automation
    • Working with the team responsible for all Management Company's weekly, monthly and quarterly processes
    • Oversee processing Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable activities and payroll activities
    • Manage and own the monthly close process, including review of monthly cash reconciliations, prepaids, fixed assets, intercompany, accruals and owning and meeting internal deadlines
    • Review and ensure that proper account reconciliations are being maintained by corporate accounting team and address any variances in a timely manner
  • Financial Reporting
    • Create/review monthly financial statements and standard analytical reports
    • Provide analysis of variances between financial results month-over-month and year to date
    • Preparing the annual Management Company budget and subsequent tracking and forecasting throughout the year.
    • Reviewing the annual Holding Company budgets and subsequent tracking and forecasting throughout the year.
    • Review for reasonableness assigned routine quarterly tax projections.
  • Payroll
    • Review payroll data and time entry for accuracy. 
    • Proof payroll and create funding.
    • Review of routine reports and quarterly filings
    • Respond to payroll inquiries as needed
  • Risk Management
    • Assist in the annual renewal of Management Company insurance program
    • Maintain allocation schedules
    • Oversee Workers Compensation audit
  • Liaise with external auditors for filing of income tax returns and statutory audits
  • Enforcing internal control policies, identifying process deficiencies, and taking corrective actions
  • Engaging with all departments to obtain information necessary to complete responsibilities
  • Supporting the treasury and family office function
  • Completing ad hoc requests from ownership, various departments (Asset Management, Property Management, Development and Property Accounting team members.
  • Involvement in special projects and initiatives to improve and scale the company
Qualifications
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Real Estate industry experience required
  • 5+ years in public/auditing/tax a plus  
  • BA/BS in Accounting
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to manage and develop a team 
  • Strong accounting, quantitative, and analytical skills, and ability to apply those skills within the role
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work well with peers, managers, and external parties
  • Strong organizational skills, an attention to detail, and the ability to meet deadlines
  • A high degree of personal integrity and the ability to maintain confidential information
  • Must be capable of independent problem solving and teamwork
  • Ability to identify issues and take initiative for process improvement and problem resolution
  • Desire to succeed in a fast-paced, multi-project environment
  • Payroll experience is a plus!
  • Advanced Excel Skills
  • MRI experience a plus
