Our client is a long-standing real estate focused private equity firm that invests in a wide variety of opportunistic and value-oriented commercial real estate transactions. The firm invests throughout the United States in single property transactions and multiple property portfolios whereby the investment strategies are based on property-level operational enhancements, as well as those with pricing advantages that arise from distressed, complex, and dislocated scenarios. Over the past three decades, they have invested in more than $30 billion of commercial real estate on behalf of a diversified and highly regarded group of endowments, foundations, public and corporate pension plans, financial institutions, family offices, and sovereign entities.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Vice President, Credit Closing Specialist to join our growing commercial real estate lending platform. This role is integral to the execution of transactions and will work closely with originators, legal counsel, and third parties to manage all aspects of the loan closing process. The ideal candidate brings deep experience in credit, loan closing, and legal review, and thrives in a fast-paced, transaction-driven environment. Since 2001, our client has originated over 170 debt investments totaling more than $2.2 billion in debt commitments through closed-ended mezzanine debt funds. The firm is also forming a targeted $1.0 billion senior debt fund that will focus on assets in the middle market with loan sizes ranging from $20-75 million.
Responsibilities:
- Manage and lead the end-to-end loan closing process for commercial real estate debt transactions, including coordination of legal, due diligence, and third-party reports.
- Serve as the primary internal point of contact for all closing-related matters, working in tandem with the lead originator and other firm support professionals.
- Review and coordinate execution of loan documents, term sheets, commitment letters, and ancillary agreements, including intercreditors for mezzanine loans.
- Conduct and oversee due diligence, including title, survey, zoning, insurance, entity review, and other third-party deliverables.
- Maintain active oversight on multiple simultaneous loan closings at any given time with strong attention todeadlines and deliverables.
- Work closely with external counsel to ensure legal compliance and timely transaction execution.
- Liaise with borrowers, sponsors, and counterparties to facilitate efficient and professional closings.
- Collaborate across teams to support pipeline tracking, internal reporting, and process improvements.
- Team approach to source, underwrite, and execute credit investments across the United States, targetingcore+, value-add, and opportunistic lending strategies.
- Focus on multifamily (including student housing, active senior, and build-to-rent), industrial, medical office,grocery-anchored retail, and mixed-use property types.
- Evaluate a range of transaction types including recapitalizations, acquisitions, construction financing, andpartner buyouts.
- Target loan sizes between $5 million and $75 million, with the ability to pursue select transactions of $100million or more.
- Assess loans with maximum leverage up to 80% of total transaction value for mezzanine strategy and 65%for senior debt.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in commercial real estate loan closing, credit operations, or legal transactions.
- Background in a bank, insurance company, or private credit platform with institutional closing processes and procedures.
- Deep understanding of loan documentation, structuring, and regulatory considerations in CRE lending.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex transactions simultaneously and drive a successful closing process.
- Strong project management, organizational, and communication skills.
- Comfort working under pressure and within tight deadlines in a transaction-focused environment.
- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree is a plus.
