Trammell Crow Director of Corporate Accounting

Trammell Crow Company, a subsidiary of CBRE, is one of the country's oldest and most prolific real estate developers and investors. This role is part of CBRE's Trammell Crow corporate accounting team and reports to the Trammell Crow controller.

We are seeking a highly effective and motivated Director of Corporate Accounting with passion and a proven track record for success in accounting process re-engineering, innovation through technology, and operational transformation. The ideal candidate will have a track record of delivering results and will play a critical role in optimizing accounting operations. The role requires the ability to apply practical experience and business know-how to current and proposed systems, process or reporting solutions.

The ideal candidate will have outstanding communication, collaboration and influencing skills. In addition, there will be project initiatives that require a global view and a clear understanding of how to best collaborate with cross-functional teams to lead to optimal solutions. The near-term focus of the role will include collaborating with shared service center management to ensure that transactional accounting activities recently transitioned to the shared service center continue to be performed with the required level of accuracy and responsiveness.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the team in day-to-day accounting, month-end close activities and financial reporting activities for multiple legal entities
  • Perform a monthly review of financials including period-over-period variance analysis
  • Maintain a strong internal control environment; update the design and scope of controls with input from the SOX team as the business evolves
  • Coordinate with internal and external auditors to support their quarterly reviews and annual audit procedures
  • Work cross-functionally with the other departments on projects and initiatives to understand financial impact and ensure accounting issues are identified and mitigated
  • Partner with FP&A, Technical Accounting, D&T and other cross functional teams to develop, support, and improve the systems, polices, and procedures necessary to drive efficiency and provide meaningful financial data
  • Maintain general ledger, including legal entity set up and dissolutions
  • Identify, design, and implement improvements with respect to business processes and financial reporting
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and operational innovation
  • Develop, mentor, and train accounting staff; provide ongoing performance feedback and participate in the hiring process


REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
  • Certified public accountant (CPA) strongly preferred
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in an accounting or financial reporting role, with progressive leadership and meaningful supervisory experience
  • Familiarity with US GAAP and reporting standards
  • Exceptional communication skills (verbal, written, and listening) and comfortable working cross-functionally with internal business partners and finance counterparts
  • Working knowledge of public company reporting and internal controls requirements
  • Practical experience with financial systems and financial reporting tools and processes; prior PeopleSoft experience a plus
  • Prior experience streamlining and automating accounting activities
  • Able to effectively balance recurring activities and deadlines with ongoing projects and ad hoc deliverables and requests
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills; able to propose concrete solutions to open-ended issues and questions
  • Self-starter with a track record of taking ownership
