OVERVIEW: 

The Vice President, Operations Controller will be responsible for leading Conifer’s operational accounting divisions of residential and development accounting functions. We are seeking a tenure property management-financial professional, who brings property development expertise as well as high volume residential-multi-family accounting experience.  This role will work directly with the Chief Financial Officer, accounting staff, asset management, property management and the Senior Leadership Team. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for overseeing the Development Accounting and Residential Accounting departments.      
  • Leads two direct reports and a total team of thirteen employees.
  • Oversee the monthly and annual financial closings, financial reporting, fixed asset accounting procedures, accounts receivables and accounts payables, year-end audits.
  • Support monthly company update materials.
  • Support with board materials as needed.
  • Oversee the monthly ledger reconciliation and job cost reports.
  • Manage monthly sources & uses reports for development projects to review in monthly financial review day meeting with the development team.
  • Analyze contracts and proposals in conjunction with other leadership staff.
  • Manage and adhere to all operating, regulatory and joint venture agreements.
  • Oversee all accounting procedures and processes.
  • Work closely with Asset Management in preparation of the annual budgets and quarterly projection modeling.
  • Provide support to asset management and property management regional managers to research and analyze variances, perform rent and operational expense analysis, and financial portfolio analysis as needed.
  • Attend monthly financial statement meetings and review with the asset management and property management teams.
  • Propose enhancements to current procedures and/or processes to continually improve the efficiency and the quality of our work. 
  • Review, analyze, and lead reporting and data utilizing Yardi application, DealPath and Smartsheets.
  • Support the CFO on all questions and activities related to the business and financial matters.      
  • Work closely and collaborate with other accounting finance leaders.
  • Supervise, train, and develop accounting leaders and oversight of the larger accounting team.
  • Key position as a member of the Senior Leadership Team.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of ten years’ experience in accounting and five years of supervisory experience, with demonstrated increasing responsibility.
  • Experience in affordable housing, real estate, construction preferred.
  • Accounting experience working for a public CPA firm and private company.
  • Strong working experience with GAAP and technical accounting principles, laws, and regulations; ability to quickly learn and adapt to new regulations.
  • Demonstrated success in advanced financial accounting and reporting.
  • Highly detailed, analytical, and accurate with proven ability to synthesize and communicate technical accounting, reporting and compliance requirements.
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office including Excel.
  • Exceptionally organized and detail oriented.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality and exercise good judgement.
  • Capable of establishing strong working relationships with team members including the ability to leverage team strengths.
  • Ability to prioritize independently while managing multiple competing priorities.
  • Working knowledge of the Yardi system preferred.

EDUCATION/TRAINING:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting. 
  • CPA is not required qualification. 

 The salary range for this position is $130,000 to $150,000. The actual compensation may vary depending on a wide range of factors, including experience, skills, qualifications, certifications, location, etc. This range does not include additional forms of compensation such as bonuses.
