Facilities Services and Capital Projects Director
Superior Court of Los Angeles County
Job Description
A nationwide search is underway to attract highly qualified candidates for consideration as the Facilities Services and Capital Projects Director with the Superior Court of Los Angeles County ("SCLAC"). This senior-level position reports directly to the Chief Finance and Administration Officer (CFAO). The successful candidate will thrive and excel in a fast-paced environment with oversight of a geographically dispersed staff. This senior-level role directs the Court's entire facilities portfolio, encompassing capital construction, ongoing maintenance, space planning, and support operations across SCLAC's many locations throughout Los Angeles County. The Director serves as the Court's principal liaison to the Judicial Council of California (JCC) and County of Los Angeles on real estate and capital project matters. The Director also leads a team of managers who work with the JCC across the full lifecycle of each facility, from acquisition, design, construction through ongoing local maintenance and upkeep.
The Director joins SCLAC at a pivotal moment, overseeing $80–120 million in active capital projects across 36 court locations, where the Court operates as a tenant, and will need to press the Court's agenda with the JCC to keep projects moving despite competing priorities and time constraints. Major initiatives on the horizon include implementing the Court's long-range facilities plan to update access to justice points across the county to a new optimal level, advancing site acquisition and early planning for a new Santa Clarita courthouse ($600 million, targeted for 2032–2033), and beginning the replacement of the seismically distressed Stanley Mosk Courthouse, a roughly $2.5 billion undertaking requiring astute navigation of Los Angeles politics and strong negotiation skills. Success in this role demands an experienced hand who can respond quickly to public access needs and judges' operational needs, work fluently across local contractors and JCC and County of Los Angeles counterparts and bring a clear long-term vision to the Court's evolving footprint.
Minimum Requirements:
- Experience: Seven years of progressively responsible experience in construction project management functions, including construction management and capital projects development and implementation
- Internal candidates: Two years of experience at the Deputy Director or Administrator II level at SCLAC
- Education: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in architecture, construction management, construction technology, civil engineering, business administration, public administration, or a closely related field. Four years of directly related professional experience may be substituted for the four-year degree.
- Travel: Frequent travel to multiple locations within Los Angeles County to carry out assigned duties and responsibilities, using a personal or Court-provided vehicle.
This is an at-will managerial position. The Trial Court Employment Protection and Governance Act (SB 2140) authorizes the Court to exclude managerial employees from the employment protection provisions of the Act, subject to meet and confer.
The annual salary range for this position is $ $260,000 - $323,180, with an anticipated hiring salary up to $291,000, depending on qualifications and education. Please note that the Court is currently conducting a comprehensive classification and compensation study, which may result in future adjustments. The selected candidate may be eligible for moving and relocation reimbursement of up to $10,000. Additionally, this classification is eligible for County benefits and retirement programs including a defined benefit pension program through LACERA. A list of benefits offered can be found in the detailed recruitment brochure. Information on the County’s MegaFlex Benefit Plan can be found at the following link.
Interested candidates should email a cover letter and resume to apply@ralphandersen.com by Monday, November 23, 2026. This is a confidential recruitment throughout all stages. Ralph Andersen & Associates will review resumes on an ongoing basis and the most qualified candidates will be invited to interview. References are not required at submission but will be requested once mutual interest is established.
Top candidates will advance to a panel interview with key leadership, and a select group of finalists will be interviewed in person (travel expenses reimbursed). Final selection will include meetings with the Court Executive Officer and senior executives, along with a thorough background and reference check.
Ideally, the new Facilities Services and Capital Improvement Director will join LASC in February 2027, to ensure a smooth leadership transition. For questions, contact Ian Appleyard at 916-630-4900, or reach out confidentially at scheduling@ralphandersen.com.
