Lake County, Illinois, (pop. 703,520), 3rd largest county in the state, is seeking a Director of Facilities and Construction Services to lead this newly created department and provide an increased focus on managing the department and its functions as a high-performing organization, pro-active maintenance of existing facilities, planning for and construction of new facilities, redevelopment of County buildings, and operational efficiencies. With an annual operating budget of approximately $433 million and a AAA credit rating, Lake County has an established reputation for progressive, and forward-looking government. The Director of Facilities and Construction Services provides strategic, administrative and technical oversight of the County’s facilities maintenance and management, capital construction, and long-term capital planning processes. The Director manages an operating budget of $11.2 million, an average annual capital budget of $17 million for new projects and facilities renovations and repairs, and a staff of 65 full time equivalent employees. The position reports directly to the County Administrator with operational support from an Assistant County Administrator.

The position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, architecture, construction management, public administration or related field; prior facilities or capital project management, preferably in a government environment; and five years of progressively responsible work experience overseeing engineering or architectural services, facilities maintenance and management, capital projects, long term capital planning and related functions. An equivalent combination of education, skills and experience will be considered. Qualified candidates must demonstrate proven leadership and organizational abilities, exceptional project management, technical and analytical skills, and the ability to work across a wide variety of governmental disciplines. 

Salary range is $128,093 - $198,503; the anticipated starting salary is in the mid- $150,000s to $160,000s, depending on qualifications and experience. Excellent benefits package. Participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund. Relocation negotiable.
