Hankey Capital the lending subsidiary of Hankey Investment Company (“HIC”), a Los Angeles based opportunistic private-equity real estate company, is seeking an experienced, self-motivated and energetic real estate professional to help grow and manage its lending platform.
General Duties and Responsibilities
The candidate will report to both Executive Vice President and the President of HIC. The candidate will be primarily responsible for sourcing and underwriting new lending opportunities as well as assisting the management of a portfolio of real estate debt. Underwriting analysis includes developing property-level valuations based on pro forma projections and sales comparables and evaluating submarket supply/demand trends.
The ideal candidate will have worked on multiple property types including multifamily, single family residential, office, industrial, retail and hospitality assets across multiple California metro submarkets like Los Angeles, Orange County and the San Francisco Bay Area.
Responsibilities
- Sourcing, originating, and underwriting new lending opportunities.

Prepare detailed valuation files in Excel utilizing property cash flow projections,
sales comparables, and development costs analyzes.
- Evaluate the property’s submarket including understanding upcoming supply/demand projections for that product type and other applicable trends.
- Lead due diligence and transaction closing efforts including but not limited to verifying property income/expenses, understanding physical and environmental conditions and risks, and reviewing legal documentation for compliance.
- Evaluate the borrower’s financial strength and conduct thorough background checks.
- Spearhead the promotion and marketing of lending programs.
- Assist in the management of existing portfolio of loans including leading portfolio-level analyzes, coordinating renewals/extensions with borrowers, monitoring loan performance and coordinating compliance with credit facilities.
- Provide ad hoc analysis for other HIC-related investment activities.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Real Estate or related field, MBA or MRED a plus.
- Three to Five years of related experience in commercial real estate field ideally providing analyst-level responsibilities in a debt or equity capacity.
- Keen understanding of the Southern California submarkets will be ideal.
- High Proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; ARGUS a plus.
- Strong understanding of real estate finance.
- Strong analytical, written and verbal skills.
- Excellent organizational skills.
