The Professionals’ Choice for Real Estate Jobs

Home Stretch

Noticing a bump in jobs requiring 10 to 15 years or more of experience, Mike Lewis’ recent book caught my eye, “When to Jump: If the Job You Have Isn’t the Life You Want,” quoted in this week’s NYT Business section. Lewis advises, even if you are in the Home Stretch of your career, consider a lateral move or even a minor set-back, regardless if it sets back your retirement plans a few years, and spend those years working in the job you really want. But Lewis cautions, first research if your unique skills could be useful elsewhere in your current company. “Unless you have ‘Golden Handcuffs’, in the end it comes down to which you’ll regret more: trying to make a change, or preemptively deciding you can’t.” Jumping, even when you are in the Home Stretch, can keep you on your toes, striving to be at the top of your game, years longer.
