Purpose of role
Reporting to the Sr. Development Manager and working closely with the rest of the team, the Development Analyst will provide critical support to the development team in all phases of development, including sourcing, underwriting, design and permitting, construction, reporting, and capitalization. Asset focus will be on residential and mixed-use development projects in San Francisco and the greater Bay Area.
Key responsibilities
To perform this role successfully, an individual must be able to perform each key responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability needed. This includes the following; other duties may be assigned as needed within skill sets or if additional responsibilities are added.
- Create and manage all financial analytics for potential acquisitions and current development projects, including financial modeling and economic analysis
- Support development team in all development related efforts, including: site identification, zoning interpretation, entitlement, concept development management, budget management and forecasting, and financial and general due diligence coordination
- Prepare internal and external monthly and quarterly reporting (both written and numerical) for all ongoing developments and prospective acquisitions
- Prepare pitch books and presentations that summarize current development opportunities to potential equity partners, community leaders, and other external stakeholders
- Other duties as assigned
Key requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field strongly preferred
- 2+ years of work experience in real estate development preferred
- Strong written and oral communication skills are essential
- Ability to work in a small team environment and provide analytical support to all team members as needed
- Must have strong financial proforma analysis ability in order to comprehensively analyze development project budgets, forecasts and returns, as well as prospective new deals, with potentially complicated deal structures
- Ability to summarize complex issues and opportunities into succinct and actionable deliverables
- Solid understanding of real estate development economic and business concepts
- Self-motivator with interest in expanding knowledge of development, design, and other relevant aspects
- Local market knowledge (markets, public agency relationships, consulting contacts) is preferred
- Highly proficient in MS Excel (detailed Excel-based financial modeling and analysis required)
- Working knowledge of MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and Argus Developer
