ROLE PURPOSE:

The purpose of this position is to provide Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG) leadership assisting our US GWS Local sector clients along their sustainability journey. This dual client-facing and internally focused leadership role will both drive new client pursuits including RFP's relating to sustainability, energy programs and asset management, as well as strategy leadership for existing CBRE client engagements whilst also ensuring we are demonstrating our credibility through internal excellence.

The successful candidate will be part of the US GWS Local leadership team as the sustainability subject matter expert and leader, as well as a member of the Global Energy and Sustainability leadership team. Aligning to the sector strategy, the Leader will directly support sales, client solutions, transitions, and account improvement initiatives on a day-to-day basis.

This role will provide leadership and advice in relation to a range of environmental, sustainability and asset management aspects. This will include decarbonization and energy transition, climate risk and resilience, life cycle assessments, circular economy and resource conservation, environmental and social value creation, sustainable procurement, and stakeholder engagement.

The key activities of this role include:

  • Development and implementation of a Sustainability and Environmental Management Plan (SEMP), including legal compliance, risk management, statutory and internal reporting of energy efficiency, water use, waste and recycling and sustainable procurement for the division and reporting it back to the Sustainability Director
  • Ensuring that all activities under our operational control are conducted and operated in accordance with relevant environmental legislation and/or guidelines
  • Manage works in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to deliver industry leading sustainability
  • Establish and implement best practice processes, procedures, templates, specifications and guidelines for all project types and frameworks for the measurement and verification of energy, water and waste efficiency projects.
  • Collaborate with ESG team members to align outcomes with our sustainability strategy and facilitate sustainability engagement and training for internal and external stakeholders.
  • To provide support to Sales Director and Projects Director in client pursuits and develop materials to enhance our offering to clients
  • Work with global and local stakeholders deliver "Productized" ESG solutions and work with the Sales, Project Management, and Operations leadership to market and deliver these products to clients.
  • Assess short and long term opportunity and develop staffing plan to maximize outcomes for clients and CBRE.
  • To act as the trusted advisor to customers and support creation of end to end strategies that meet their ESG corporate goals and objectives and respond to changing legislation and best practice
  • Anticipating business needs through client relationships and analyses of policy, budget, and regulatory information.
  • Act as a CBRE ambassador at industry events, through networking, speaking engagements, and written external communications

  • Assist in the delivery or implementation of the various strategies within the ESG spectrum which may include:


Environment:

    • Ensure the effective management of energy resources to meet client's objectives and targets.
    • To identify, develop and implement new energy related opportunities
    • Carry out all energy related tasks to ensure service provision and compliance
    • To motivate and train people in energy management
    • Assist clients to measure, monitor and report on energy consumption and carbon emissions
    • Define sustainability and governance reporting processes
    • Develop and capture and share best practices across the division/BU


Social:

    • Create social value strategies aligned to business and client needs
    • Work with the supply chain managers to promote sustainability and social value across the division
    • Hold events for both internal and external stakeholders


Governance:

    • Maintain a thorough understanding of corporate sustainability and governance, legal, statutory and technical issues which affect both client and CBRE
    • Understand policies of national and local government level in the area of environmental impact and climate change
    • Stay up to date and share sustainability updates within new products and services
    • Keep abreast of Energy Market developments and changes, ensuring that the client comply with all Energy related Legislation


Core Competencies:

  • Extensive working knowledge of energy and sustainability, governance including engineering or building services
  • Ability to market and "sell" ESG-based solutions to clients.
  • Extensive knowledge of the principle techniques and technologies which support energy and sustainability
  • Competency in current benchmark techniques and statistical analysis
  • Capable of preparing fully costed ESG proposals and reports
  • Ability to carry out full energy surveys and feasibility studies of energy technologies
  • Ability to support the formation of client plans to achieve carbon neutrality or net zero
  • Extensive working knowledge of Trend BMS and control theory.
  • Understand the principles behind HVAC, refrigeration and Lighting operation and system design / integration
  • Proven leadership capabilities across both direct and matrix reporting structures
  • Familiarity with navigating industrial and logistic procurement practices,
  • Strong network within energy, sustainability, environmental and other related communities required
  • Outstanding interpersonal & communication skills, including written, verbal and presentation Demonstrated ability to work closely and communicate effectively with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders
  • Entrepreneurial, self-motivated, independent and results oriented with the ability to motivate and engage direct and indirect team members and stakeholders


Skills and Education Required

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (BA/BS).

Experience identifying and implementing sustainability programs.

Business development, sales, and proposal experience a plus

Comfortable in a fast-paced, collaborative, team-focused environment

Experience with EV, renewables, decarbonization, asset management and energy programs

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Strong organizational and analytical skills.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Ability to provide efficient, timely, reliable, and courteous service to customers.

Ability to effectively present complex information in complex settings such as business pursuits.

Maintains a high degree of strategic clarity within a confusing and evolving market.

FINANCIAL KNOWLEDGE

Requires advanced knowledge of financial terms and principles. Ability to calculate intermediate figures such as percentages, discounts, and commissions. Conducts advanced financial analysis.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret complex documents. Ability to solve problems involving several options in situations. Requires advanced analytical and quantitative skills with a thorough knowledge of account best practices.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES

Strong process skills, negotiating, decision-making and analytical skills are necessary. Demonstrated ability in project management processes, tools, and techniques.

Ability to build and maintain effective professional/client relationships.

Intermediate skills with Microsoft Office Suite including MS Project.
